The El Dorado Charter SELPA currently offers opportunities throughout the course of the 22-23 school year, for your LEA’s speech and language pathologist and supporting speech community, to receive accredited training opportunities. The El Dorado SELPA’s are a newly accredited CEU provider with the California Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispenser Board. The SELPAs provide a wide range of training opportunities from community-based offerings such as ASHA webinars, certificated training in Communication Severity Scales (CSS).

The Communication Severity Scales (CSS) addresses on-going questions regarding SLP growing caseloads, lack of individualized determination of speech and language services, concerns with students missing core academic instruction, and some students rarely being dismissed from therapy. In addition, the CSS provides additional resources for identifying English Learners who may have a speech and/or language disability, expanded analysis of pragmatics, and the new Complex Communication Needs Matrix for students who use augmentative or alternative communication systems. In addition, once trained, you will be given access to the forms, worksheets, and extensive Resources.
At the conclusion of a half-day CSS training, participants will be skilled in applying the CSS to analyze students on their caseloads and make recommendations for speech and language services to IEP teams. The training is comprised of six components:
Overview of the CSS process and legal requirements

Participants will be provided with resources including the newly created AT/AAC assessment template among numerous therapeutic resources. In addition, participants will understand the tiered levels of supports available at all levels of general and special education. Finally, participants will be able to create IEP based goals and services based on the assessment reports they have conducted in both AT/AAC areas.
