About

What is a SELPA?

What is a SELPA?

In California, every local educational agency (LEA) is required to belong to a Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). The SELPA is a consortium of LEAs responsible for the development of special education policies and procedures per the local plan, distribution of federal and state special education funds, and providing a range of technical assistance and professional development pertaining to special education.

The El Dorado County Charter SELPA was one of the first statewide charter-only SELPAs. Established in 2006, its cooperative model was designed to ensure that partner charter schools have access to the resources, support, and compliance guidance necessary to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
