The El Dorado Charter SELPA provides in-depth training in key areas for educators and administrators. In an effort to meet the needs of our partners, the SELPA has expanded the academies offered to reach educators who are brand new to the profession to even the most experienced educator. See below to learn more about the Leadership Academy, Teacher Academy, and Paraeducator Academy.

Leadership Academy

In light of COVID-19, and unexpected schedule changes, we are moving forward with the 2020 Leadership Academy via web-based trainings.

The Leadership Academy is an in-depth training focusing on critical skill-development for successful administration of special education programs and staff.

The training brings together a cohort of current and/or new special education administrators. The focus of the academy is to build essential skills for providing special education support and services tailored to the unique charter school’s mission, community, and student population. The Leadership Academy focuses on five core special education modules:

1. Leadership in Special Education
2. Program Design and Implementation
3. Student Performance and Outcomes
4. Fiscal and Resource Management
5. Compliance and Legal Responsibilities

Leadership Academy attendees are accepted by application only.

Applications for the 2020 Leadership Academy are now open. If you are interested in applying, please contact Nickie Terpening, nterpening@edcoe.org.

The deadline to submit an application is May 29, 2020.

Current and new special education administrators are encouraged to attend. The focus of the training is to build essential skills to provide special education support and services tailored to your unique charter school’s mission, community, and student population.

Due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 restrictions, we will not be hosting the In-depth Leadership Academy for 2020. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Teacher Academy

This web-based Teacher Academy incorporates research-based content and activities that deepens participant knowledge and develops their educational practices leading to improved outcomes for students with disabilities.

Registration for the 2020 Teacher Academy is now full. Thank you for your interest.

The Teacher Academy is designed for new special education teachers or teachers who are looking to refine their current practice. Teams of educators are encouraged to participate.

Paraeducator Academy

Highly skilled paraeducators are an integral component of a quality educational program. Under the supervision of an appropriately credentialed educator, paraeducators are responsible for the support of students with disabilities in the least restrictive setting as outlined in the IEP. To be effective in this vital role, and to ensure positive student outcomes, paraeducators require ongoing focused training. In addition, a clear understanding of the delivery of individualized adaptations and educational supports for students across school settings is essential.

Join us for a two and a half hour virtual academy designed to provide tools and resources to equip paraeducators in supporting students toward positive student outcomes.

Join us for a one-day academy designed to provide tools and resources to equip paraeducators in supporting students toward positive student outcomes.
